The government will set aside
5 million annually for 6 circuses
De 5 mio. kr. er afsat fra 2026 til 2029 i regeringens finanslovsforslag for 2026, i følge Socialdemokratiets kulturordfører Mogens Jensen and the web media Kulturmonitor:
"Danish circus is under pressure. In recent years, several Danish circuses have had to close, and for the Social Democrats and the government it is important that we preserve this unique cultural form, which for more than 200 years has contributed to Danish culture and community throughout the country," says Mogens Jensen in a press release.
A hand under the circus professionalism is needed
Artists' spokesperson Sara Indrio praises the government for its clear support for the circus. However, she calls for more focus on the bigger picture, which includes education, employment and increased professionalism in Denmark.
"It's fantastic to see touring circus on the Finance Act. This should be the first step in a more comprehensive solution for Danish circus. The circus profession, which in recent years has shown itself capable - despite very difficult conditions - of providing great experiences for audiences and rethinking the performing arts, also in the many other contexts besides the travelling circus, needs a helping hand. The art form needs help to secure the basics in Denmark: education, jobs and good working conditions," says Sara Indrio.
