DR supports Eurovision and does not comment on Israel's participation, but maintains that Eurovision is a cultural event that is 'apolitical,' according to the Danish Broadcasting Corporation dr.dk

Several other European countries have chosen a different approach, namely to withdraw their participation as long as Israel is involved. These include Ireland, Slovenia, Iceland, the Netherlands and most recently Spain.

In Dansk Artist Forbund, we are very concerned about the consequences DR's announcement may have for the artists and songwriters who are entering the competition.

If DR does not take responsibility, an impossible and unfair responsibility will fall on the artists instead. It will be up to the individual to decide whether they want to participate, despite security risks and stigmatisation from the public in a conflict that has become a worldwide issue.

"It's a rather unfair condition that DR now places on the artist, who has to choose between a big chance and a big risk. DR needs to take a clearer responsibility for the artists and come up with a more sustainable solution that reflects the seriousness of the situation," says artist spokesperson Sara Indrio.

As the organisation responsible for Eurovision, the EBU has taken a stand on international political issues before, most recently in 2022 when the European Broadcasting Union excluded Russia from the competition. This is in line with the call from Franscesca Albanese - the UN special investigator - for the world's institutions and organisations to take a political stance.

This is a rather unfair condition that DR is now placing on the artist, who has to choose between a big chance and a big risk. DR needs to take a clearer responsibility for the artists and come up with a more sustainable solution that reflects the seriousness of the situation.
