Art on maternity leave is a parent community where you can experience art and culture with your baby and other parents.

The baby-friendly concerts take place on the last Friday of the month at 11am - and the sound level, duration and audience size are adapted to the needs of babies - but with artistic quality and sensuality at the core.

With the music programme, initiators art historian Malou Solfjeld and musician Julie Boda want to unite art and maternity life and create a vibrant cultural community for new parents.

"In a stage of life characterised by change, isolation and vulnerability, everyone deserves access to live concerts." they say.

More tasks for artists who are parents

Many new artists, especially as mums, find that maternity leave and uncertain earnings lead to career breaks or career stops. Art on Maternity aims to create paid opportunities for artists who are parents themselves, contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive art scene.

As music manager for Art on Maternity, Julie Boda is responsible for booking new artists for the concert programme. And they can be new parents, she says:

"We focus on artists who are parents themselves, as we know that women, in particular, find that their careers are affected when they start a family. Our goal is to put together a concert programme that contributes to diversity on several levels."

What does Art on Maternity stand for?

1. Meaningful cultural experiences for parents who may miss cultural experiences and communities during a busy maternity leave.

2. Art and culture at eye level that can help build community and strengthen the mental health of both parents and children.

Since October 2023, Art on Maternity has created weekly art experiences centred around visual art, literature, performing arts and art film. From August 2025, monthly concerts will also be part of the programme.
