Music is one of Europe's most visible and widely used cultural sectors.

Music is one of Europe's most visible and widely used cultural sectors, but independent artists and small organisations, which are so crucial to the sector, should have stronger and fairer industry conditions. This is stated in an upcoming report, which recommends improvements for the entire music sector through a dedicated music programme in the EU.

The proposals concern, among other things, fair wages, better working conditions, and improvements in visibility, diversity, as well as better funding and dissemination of music across borders.

The report also points to the need for an instance to collect data at a European level. The artists' spokesperson, Sara Indrio, is very much looking forward to this prospect:

”We are particularly excited about the opportunities in the European Music Observatory, which will gather data and knowledge to help preserve a healthy market and strengthen legislation, both domestically and in European markets. In my opinion, this also means much more cultural exchange within the EU.”

The Danish Artists' Union supports the conclusions, together with our international artist organisation IAO and 25 other European music organisations.
