New agreement for artists and musicians in TV2 productions
The new agreement covers both payment for appearances in TV programmes and the rights to subsequent exploitation of the content. All artists and musicians are covered by the agreement and production companies are obliged to follow the new standards of the agreement.
"It's very satisfying that artists and musicians now have clear and transparent terms when it comes to music in TV2 programmes. It took some time to get all the details in place, and we have had good and constructive negotiations over several months. We are happy to have reached an agreement that covers everyone," says Sara Indrio, chairperson of the Danish Artist Association.
"It is crucial that musicians and artists work under transparent and fair conditions when their music is used in TV2 programmes. It has taken patience and thorough negotiations over several months to reach this point, but now we have an agreement that creates clarity and ensures a proper framework for everyone involved. This is an important step in the right direction," says Thomas Sandberg, chairman of the Danish Musicians' Union.
"The Danish Producers' Association works to create good conditions in the industry, and with this agreement we strengthen the conditions for the musicians and artists who participate in TV2 programmes produced by our members," says Anna Porse Nielsen, Director of the Danish Producers' Association.
Payment options
There is still free negotiation on what the production company should pay artists and musicians for appearing in a TV production. However, there is a minimum payment that both parties can use as a starting point for an agreement - a payment that is adjusted according to the length of a performance.
The agreement states that the minimum payment for three performers in a programme such as "X-factor" or "Vild med Dans" for up to 5 minutes is DKK 18,000. The amount covers the three together.
The payment also includes a portion of the production and rehearsal time for the programme. See minimum rates in this overview
The agreement also includes terms for how much and how often the production can be shown and rebroadcast.
All parties behind the agreement - the Danish Artist Association, the Danish Federation of Musicians and the Danish Producers' Association - work to ensure a good and safe working environment on productions and refer to the film, TV and performing arts industry initiative The line in the sand .
Facts about the agreement
The agreement applies to productions commissioned by TV2 Denmark or TV2 Network - and covers all artists, musicians, soloists and accompanists.
Applies when artists and musicians are engaged for musical performances in TV productions to be shown on TV2. It does not include artists and musicians participating in quiz shows and lifestyle programmes.
