Debate: We are the artists' independent representative

Last week, the web media Kulturmonitor reported A debate article, who asks the question, ”who actually represents the artist?”
The question is posed by the chair of Danish managers, Kat Jarlby, who raises concerns on behalf of the management profession regarding the artists. The background is the new reality that artists signed to Universal may face if they sign so-called 360-degree deals.
”There is no doubt that this type of agreement represents a breakthrough. But to say that with Universal's new strategy there is no longer any protection for artists is an overstatement,” says Jens Skov Thomsen, head of secretariat and legal affairs at the Danish Artists' Union.
The Danish Artists' Union is the artists' independent representative – no matter how the industry otherwise develops.
