About
Danish Artist Association

"We are the voice of artists. We strengthen artists' rights and conditions throughout their careers. In a fragmented working life, we insist on being the unifying community for you. We are your professional security and work to create respect for art and its value to society."
Danish Artist Union's vision, 2025

Artist voice and community

Dansk Artist Forbund is a trade union organisation under the main trade union organisation FH. This means that we can enter into collective agreements on behalf of our members regarding pay and working conditions. This distinguishes us from interest and genre organisations.

Dansk Artist Forbund organises music artists and physical performers around rights, income and working conditions. We represent our members both collectively and individually, as well as towards employers, contract partners, legislators and other authorities.

We are the voice of artists when it comes to knowledge about our members' work, their hybrid economy and the atypical working conditions and legislation on labour market, rights and cultural policy. We offer specialised advice and membership services for self-employed artists through our own legal and unemployment insurance department, social and labour market advice for freelancers, personal and collective insurance, and sparring on business, income and career.

For over 100 years, we have represented artists and musicians in the artistic field nationally and internationally: From top-50 solo artists, producers and freelance musicians to dancers, actors, entertainers, hospital clowns and specialised artists in circus, magic and drag.

In addition, the Danish Artist Association manages and distributes collective and individual rights funds for artistic content, as well as represents its members in and towards rights forums and societies.

The voice of artists for over 100 years

Dansk Artist Forbund was formed in 1918 to secure the finances and rights of contortionists in Denmark. Over time, the association has grown to include all kinds of artists in the remark the independent artist who performs with their own brand on a variety of stages.

See our statutes here: Danish Artists' Union Statutes_2023.

Entitlement funds

Dansk Artist Forbund administers copyright royalties. We distribute the royalties both via applications for cultural and educational purposes and as individual payments to music performers and circus artists. We have a permanent seat on the Gramex board and are co-owners of Performex. Both are management companies for performer rights, i.e. you, the performer and/or performer.

The Music Industry Code for Equal Access

The Danish Artist Association is part of the steering committee for the Music Industry Partnership for Sustainable Development. The partnership is a cross-sectoral network of leaders working for mental well-being and equal access for music artists. Through the partnership, the organisations commit to working actively with The Music Industry Code for Equal Access. The organisation shall report on progress and results on the six principles of the code on an annual basis. In addition, we are connected to the Safe Space shopping guide and the Line in the Sand.
